Not so bad I guess

Well all I have to say is teachers are Earth walking Angels. They really do understand children and the unique aspects of them. Talking with her is so interesting, the things you notice about your child even the ones you find most anoying are things she sees too, but only sometimes might see it differently than you. Does that make sense? For instance he can memorize a book in a split second so when I read with him I get frustrated because I think he isnt seeing the words because when you point to a word and ask him what it is he just gets frustrated. She says they put these stories on cards each one word to a story like Cat in the Hat and then they put these same words from the book and mix them up…..guess what he recognizes the words! So here I am getting frustrated at this and she is praising him…SHAME ON ME! I am so excited that teachers (this would be his third one) can see things I dont see. Starting in Preschool with Miss Joyce who noticed that he could pick out the letters if she laid them down on a table if she said find me the K he could but if you held up the letter K and asked him what letter it was he couldn’t tell you…Shades of Uncle Reck I think. right brain learner…I wrote a paper on it in college and got a D so I threw it away, wish I would have kept it now. Anyway I digress, then last year Mrs. B who is just awesome to now Mrs. C I really like her too. Oh and Miss Joyce now is a teacher at Diva’s school!

Well anyway JJ’s music and PE grades are up from last year so that is good and is right up to par in math and his favorite Science. Reading she says he is improving rapidly now that he goes to a daily intense reading group the one thing that he really needs help in is his writing. Daddy had a great idea the other day, now we have a video library with disney movies and Feature films for family’s that he can “rent” he writes the name of the movie and the date down on his video account card and “rents” the movie…we have already seen a bit of a difference in him. He wants to copy it down right. We told Mrs. C this and she was so excited she’s going share it with other parents. Daddy went thru JJ’s room you wouldn’t recognize it. He pretty much got rid of everything and what he didnt was organized so well he is even keeping it clean.

Diva is getting into “art projects” now too, the kids seem to have that in common and shes so cute to come and share “mommy I did” with this shining bright smile of pure pride its so adorable. She made me this cute little baby pumkin that had paint and buttons glued on it for a stand her teacher put in some wire with curly q’s to hold some cute pictures of her at school. Well actually one cute picture the other one is ridiculously hideous she is saying cheese and you feel like your the camera looking up her nose! Miss N laughed and said she walked around all day saying cheese after she saw the camera.

Well my man and I have two wild and crazy nights planned but we have been sick so I wonder how wild they will be. Tonight we are going to the AK TROOPER concert featuring “The Letermen” and tomorrow night we have a sitter and we might go see our friends band that is playing locally. But who knows, since we have gotten older and I think wiser we have canceled all of our fun evening plans and traded them in for evenings at home with the kids eating popcorn and watching movies….which will it be???

10:00 PM we went to The Lettermen concert, I had a really good time, my husband I dont think did. I love the energy of live music and comedy and theatre he is such a gentleman he accomodates me…the sweet boy did’nt get all teary eyed when I did and he didn’t be bop to the beat like me but he sat there in his quiet way thinking wow I married a freak ;) He loves me. Isn’t he sweet?

Brace Yourself

Parent teacher conferences….how scary is that? I remember always being afraid of them when I was a kid……but guess what I am MORE afraid of them now! Is that crazy? I worried and worried as a kid….of course we were never invited and it meant both mom and dad were taken away from me at night back in the old days (I WILL NOT TELL MY AGE!) I sat there chewing my nails thinking I was dead meat! I dont know why I was of course the perfect child ;)
However it is different when it is YOUR kids being graded….doesnt that reflect the parent as well? oh how weird….I dont like this…I have already gotten 2 frowns from reading with the boy….do I flunk as a parent? This cant be his fault….only mine for not being the perfect mommy….

I will let you know how it goes tomorrow….
I am scared………….

School days

Oh so I realize it is the middle of October okay well towards late October and I have been terrible neglectful of this site…I promise things are starting to become routine now and I am so thankful. This transition into working mom took quite a while to get down. You know its funny how with just JJ I was so together and I mean it my house was clean shopping was done ect….but when you got em in school its TOTALLY DIFFERENT! All of a sudden your suposed to be super mom with homework, classroom help, and all the rest that comes with it…I was struggling just to get the dishes done. I have seriously got the 20 minute lunchtime shopping trip down to a T…and the okay lets thaw out some chicken breasts for dinner and nuke em….rice a roni and we’re almost a square meal right? oh okay we will have veggies tomorrow kids I promise…and fruit for breakfast isnt that okay?? well probably not considering the snotty noses we have had for the last two weeks….I promise to try harder….of course daddy has it all down when he cooks….but thats another story…
JJ’s school pictures were SO HORRIBLE! he looked like a strucken deer with the wide eyes and the plastered fake smile….but still to me he is my sweet baby boy. He is learning to read a little better, I just cant push him at all or he will get angry and his teacher doesnt want that at all its supposed to be FUN….yeah so we read till its no longer fun about….9 minutes….we are working on it…we are supposed to read at least 15 what am I supposed to do? Right now we quit when he gets frustrated. He is enjoying his school year and the program he did last friday was amazing. I cant even believe the things he is studying in science! and they put it all to music and movement so the kids dont even realize they are learning and its something they will never forget being that it is to a rythm. I remember the collors of the spectrom that I learned to a song in Kindergarten and we all know how old I am…its amazing what they are teaching these kids. JJ is having some trouble with his Gross motor skills, I think it is just because he is such a big boy…his mucsles are not really developed for such a huge kid of just 7 for gosh sakes he weighs 78 POUNDS! He is just a big bulky kid that doesnt have the coordination for his huge size!

Diva on the other hand is loving preshcool…. tonight we asked her “whos ready for biscuits and gravy? she raises both hands and says “I DO I DO I DO I DO!!!!!! want seems to be the key word and she raises her hands to do the preshcool dance of I DO I DO I DO!!!” Picture Elmo….
